Currently working with the yard dogs to compose new bits, songs, and get our new show bangin on all chambers. Had a coupla fun tours in 2009 with Les Claypool, which was real groovy for ole me, getting to revisit good times with Thela Hun Ginjeet, D’s Diner, getting up on the roof again, and long in the tooth. Especially fun was the Symbiosis festival up near Yosemite, where we shared the stage with Les and a bunch of other amazing acts. Had a great time at that one. Wandered the grounds and pondered why there’s such a potent urge to go sonically thump in the woods en masse. I’ll forever have the experience of Tornado Riders tearing up the front porch of one of the cabins with a chello bearing lunatic leading us in a major giggle.
Had a lovely Valentines 2010, at the Lucent L’Amour event in L.A. The highlight was having my daughter Ola’i be the Star Tetrahedron for my Spaceman Not Yet piece in the show. She was a gem.
Was interesting having Tommy Cappel share the stage with us with his new group Beats Antique (not performing with YDRS). They’re tearing it up! Currently on tour with ....Les! Ah small world. Which brings me to Jason Slota, Tommy’s replacement in YDRS, who is doing a phenomenal job and bringing new salt n sugar to the show. He is a badass drummer and has lots of surprises up his sleeve. He’ll occasionally flip out and drop the weirdest most avant cacophony of stunts and make em fit and land on their feet, and innocently return to the proper part as though nothing happened. Great.
Just posted a piece representing some work I’m doing with composing with shapes, geometric music, if you will. Diggin on the Enneagram as a favorite, and of course, the Star Tetrahedron. More to come on this, inspiration willing.
